About

Discover the Hemingford Abbots Flower Festival – Supporting The Church of St Margaret of Antioch

The Hemingford Abbots Flower Festival is not only a wonderful celebration of village life, gardens, and community spirit—it’s also a vital fundraiser for one of our most cherished local landmarks: St Margaret’s Church. With its graceful spire rising above the Ouse Valley, this beautiful  church is Grade I listed and the oldest building in the village and a cornerstone of our local heritage. Funds raised during the Flower Festival go directly to maintaining and conserving the church, ensuring it remains a vibrant space for worship, concerts, and community events for generations to come.

Organised entirely by volunteers, the Festival offers a delightful weekend experience. Over 20 stunning gardens will be open to visitors, each one showcasing the beauty of Hemingford Abbots in full bloom. Enjoy tea and homemade cakes in select gardens or grab a bite from food vans near the Village Hall.

There’s entertainment for all ages: marvel at historic cars, motorbikes, and vintage tractors on display, enjoy traditional performances by Morris dancers and Country Dancers outside the Axe & Compass pub (which will also be serving real ales and lunch), or relax with a scenic electric riverboat trip along the River Great Ouse. You can also browse and buy plants grown in local gardens, explore craft stalls, and view or purchase original artwork.

At the heart of the Festival is St Margaret’s Church, beautifully decorated with stunning flower displays and thousands of blooms - an absolute must-see! Visitors can enjoy a full programme of services, bell-ringing, choral music, and live performances on the organ and harp.

The Friends of St Margaret’s charity (Reg. No. 1104625), which helps fund essential repair and conservation projects, plays a central role in the Festival. Previous proceeds have helped fund a new kitchen and toilet, upgraded heating, improved wheelchair access, restored floor tiles, repointed stonework, improved lighting, and installed a spiral staircase for safe access to the bell tower.

Whether you’re here for the gardens, the music, the atmosphere, or the cause—there’s something for everyone to enjoy.  Hemingford Abbots is often described as one of the most picturesque villages in Cambridgeshire. Come and see why. A warm welcome awaits!
